How to Start a Weight Loss Program if You’re Overweight
With each new year, millions of people make a resolution to lose more weight. Our country is currently experiencing an obesity epidemic, as thousands of Americans each year exceed their recommended weight. If you’re looking to begin a weight loss program, it can be incredibly difficult to know where to start, especially if you’ve never exercised before. Here are a few quick tips to help you start your weight loss program.
Clean Out Your Fridge
Even if you go “healthy” grocery shopping, you’ll still need to eliminate existing unhealthy foods in your home. For unopened items that aren’t refrigerated, you may be able to donate them to your local food bank. Eliminate any foods that are high in sugar, high fructose corn syrup, white flour and saturated fat. Also try to eliminate any foods that are overly processed, since many processed foods contain added sugar and other simple carbohydrates.
Start Slowly
Making a drastic lifestyle change can be extremely difficult. You have a much better chance of success if you take small steps towards improving your health. Try eliminating sugar drinks from your diet, or taking a short walk outdoors each day. Gradually work your way up to a longer walk, and then eliminate foods contianing any high fructose corn syrup. These baby steps will help you have a much smoother transition into your new healthy lifestyle.
